About Biology LessonsThis collection was originally published by Poetry Monthly as a prize for winning their 1999 Poetry Anthology Competition. The competition judge Neil Fulwood noted in his adjudication that "[He] found in Gavin Stewart's poetry humanity, insight, experience, a wealth of subtle phraseology, a sense of nostalgia unsullied by sentimentality, and an almost heartbreaking use of understatement; in short, all the things to which true poetry should aspire."
Acknowledgments'Biology Lesson', 'The Burner'and 'Pencilling-in Grief' were published originally in the Interpreter's House.'Given to Arson' won the Bedfordshire Prize in the Bedfordshire Open Poetry Competition 1999.
