Poetry for KS1 & 2

"What do we do with our poorly pets?
We take them to the friendly vets...."

For a number of years now I have been a poet-in-schools. This is a strange and wonderful role, in which I get a chance to introduce a classroom full of young people to the writer-within-them.

However, as well as encouraging young people to write, I have also encouraged them to make me write too. I believe that writing is a skill best understood when seen in action. The poems collected below are the result of an artistic collaboration between myself and all the little boys and girls who have stuck up their hand in a classroom workshop and said " I bet you can't write a poem about ....!"

It might have taken me more drafts than they expected. It might have taken me more sleepless nights than I expected... but I generally got there.....!

The poems featured on this site are all suitable for KS1 and KS2 classes. Please feel free to use them. If your children enjoy them...then send me an e-mail and let me know!
