This is a tale of Fisherman Sid
Of his rusty boat the Widdle-Eyed Pid;
Of how he sailed and sailed the sea
But never caught a fish for tea.

It also tells of Nasty Ben
And his mocking crew of Cornish men.
Of how they laughed and jeered at Sid
No matter what he said or did:

O Sid O Sid! You’re quite forlorn.
You’ve never even caught a prawn.
You’ve never caught a cod or tope.
O Sid! O Sid! You’re quite a dope.

At first their songs made Sidney sad
But then they drove him raging mad.
They spurred him on to take great risks
Anything to catch a fish!

So Sid, he sailed the ocean’s deep
Where shifty sharks and ship-wrecks sleep
Where winds and rain makes mighty waves
That splash and crash and beat the brave!

Our Sid he fished despite the sea:-
I need to catch a fish for Tea.
He set his rod, he laid his bait
He settled down; began his wait.

And then………and then his rod dipped down.
His running reel went round and round.
Sid had hooked a monstrous fish,
Much bigger than his wildest wish.

Sid heave-ho-ed to land his catch
The fish was strong: a perfect match.
Then Sidney hauled and pulled him in
The fish fought back – Oh who will win?

Poor Sid, Poor Sid - he heard a PING
The fighting fish had snapped his string
The monstrous beast had got away
It really wasn’t Sidney’s day

For into view came Nasty Ben
With his jeering crowd of Fishermen.
They took one look at the broken line
And those nasty men began their rhyme

O Sid O Sid! You’re quite forlorn.
You’ve never even caught a prawn.
You’ve never caught a cod or tope.
O Sid! O Sid! You’re quite a dope.

But as they laughed a mighty splash,
Sunk their boat with a creaky-crash.
And they were forced to cry for help.
Ya should have heard those sailors yelp!

This is a tale of Fisherman Sid
Of his trusty boat the Widdle-Eyed Pid;
Of how he saved the day for Ben
and his grateful band of Cornish men.

For as their boat began to sink
Old Sidney fished them from the drink.
He pulled them in with his broken line.
A better catch he could not find.

When all were safe on the Widdle-Eyed Pid
Ben spoke up in praise of Sid.
Thanks O thanks… and here’s your wish…
Our pockets you see are full of fish!

O Sid O Sid! You are the best!
A better sailor than the rest!
A better sailor than Nasty Ben
And his sorry crew of fishermen
.
